The Rail Jam featuring the state’s top skiers and snowboarders will be part of Saturday’s grand opening celebration of the Jars Cannabis Utica retail store.

Rail Jam takes place 1-5 p.m. at Jars Utica, 45211 Utica Park Boulevard near Hall Road (M-59) and M-53 in the building that formerly housed a National Coney Island restaurant. The event is free to attend for people 21 and over.

“Rail Jam is more than a competition — it’s about passion, community, and the riders who make this scene what it is,” Jars COO Raymond Abro said in a news release.

“We’re bringing together local talent, a high-energy crowd, and unbeatable grand opening deals for a day that’s all about the sport, our community, and the culture that fuels it,” he said.

About 50 athletes will compete on a 14-foot drop-in ramp as they vie for $8,000 in cash prizes.

According to the release, the jam-style competition will feature Michigan’s top skiers and snowboarders flying through the air on three custom-built rail features.

Olympic silver medalist Kyle Mack of West Bloomfield will serve as a guest judge as he brings his expertise and Michigan roots to the competition. He will be joined on the judging panel by two industry veterans, who will score the participants based on creativity, execution, and technical skill.

Registration is free for skiers and snowboarders and a helmet is required.

Also, Woodward Sports will be on hand to broadcast the competition live.

Other highlights include:

• A live DJ spinning the tunes

• Local food trucks and free food with a Jars purchase from Wahoosh BBQ and Savvy Sliders

• Discounts of up to 40% on storewide items
