Donations are sought to cover funeral expenses for the 34-year-old Saginaw woman killed in an apparent murder-suicide that happened in front of her young child at the Holiday Inn Express in Auburn Hills.

The GoFundMe account for Jackie Jo Torrez lists a fundraising goal of $11,000 and states all the money will go directly to her parents, Joe and Juana Torrez. As of mid-afternoon Thursday, $4,505 had been pledged.

Auburn Hills police responding to a report of a possible domestic violence incident last Friday night found Torrez fatally shot inside the hotel room. Officers were in the hotel hallway approaching the room when gunshots were heard, police said.

The man police say killed her before killing himself was Marcus Isaiah Taylor, 33, from Vassar.

On the GoFundMe page, Torrez is described as “a kind, vibrant soul who cared deeply for those around her.”

It further states, in part: “Her life was taken far too soon in an act of domestic violence—an unimaginable loss that has left a void in the hearts of many who cherished her.

“Most heartbreaking of all, Jackie leaves behind her beloved 4-year-old daughter. No child should have to grow up without their mother, and we want to do everything we can to honor her memory while ensuring her little girl is surrounded by love, support, and care.”

Torrez’s funeral is scheduled for March 19 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Vassar. Visitation will be held the day earlier, March 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church.
