Get those dancing shoes on and loosen your hips because there’s a lot of dancing coming to downtown Los Angeles this summer.
The Music Center’s free Dance DTLA series will take place from 7 to 11 p.m. on most Friday nights tonight through Aug. 1. Events mostly are at the Jerry Moss Plaza at the Music Center, but due to recent events in downtown L.A., tonight’s installment will be at Walt Disney Concert Hall from 5 to 10 p.m.
The gatherings begin with a free lesson followed by a dance party with DJ music.
Each night will follow a different genre, and it all starts with the highly energetic and cinematic moves of the Bollywood style. That’s followed June 27 with Afrobeat and — here’s where the hips come in — salsa takes over July 11, followed by cumbia July 18. People can let their hair down with the island beats of reggaeton July 25, then get out their bell-bottoms and sequined outfits as the summer of dance ends with disco tunes Aug. 1.
When: 7-11 p.m. on most Friday nights through Aug. 1
