It’s not a cruel summer for fans of free concerts.

Across the Inland Empire, cities are staging weekly performances that showcase music from pop to hip-hop to hard rock.

Shows are as varied as a tribute to Taylor Swift — who has a hit called “Cruel Summer” — in Ontario on Aug. 21 to a cover band in Murrieta playing songs July 26 from Van Halen, who once riffed about “Summer Nights.”

The shows are delighting crowds across the region.

For example, Ontario Town Square was packed Wednesday night, when Lety Lopez and Vicky Cabrera performed mariachi music.

Residents should check with their city for details, but here’s a glimpse at what some Inland municipalities are presenting this summer.
