


A Silverthorne man suspected of stealing $475,000 worth of jewelry from a Boulder County home in 2023 pleaded guilty to two counts of theft in late August.
Bryce Daniel Almus, 32, was initially charged with two counts of theft and two counts of pawnbroker-prohibited acts, a Class 3 felony.
However, on Aug. 21, Almus pleaded guilty to theft — $100,000-$1,000,000; and theft — $1,000- $2,000. The remaining charges were dismissed, according to court documents.
During his arraignment, Almus received 60 days in jail, three years of probation and has to serve 150 hours of community service.
Michigan State Police on Nov. 27 arrested Almus in Berrien County, Michigan, on an outstanding warrant from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, according to a press release. On Dec. 5, Almus was extradited from Michigan and booked into the Boulder County Jail.
Almus was released from jail on Dec. 6 after bonding out on a $200,000 personal recognizance bond.
After investigating a report of burglary and theft from a home on St. Vrain Road in unincorporated Boulder County, detectives learned that the home was believed to have been burglarized in June 2023 when the homeowners were out of town, according to the release.
The victim reported that six pieces of jewelry were stolen with a combined value of over $475,000.The home was on the market at the time, and many people came to the property, complicating the investigation, according to the release. Investigators were later able to determine that Almus had visited the residence on at least one occasion as a prospective buyer.
Not all the jewelry was recovered, and some recovered items were incomplete.
Detectives recovered the following stolen jewelry; a 4.31-carat diamond ring; a Morganite necklace and matching earrings; a pair of diamond and sapphire earrings; and a 4.03-carat diamond that had been removed from its ring setting.
