The Warren Police Department is hosting its Citizen’s Academy from May 6 to June 17, offering interactive participation designed to give the public a working knowledge of the police agency’s personnel and policies.
A series of weekly classes, each lasting about two hours, will cover a different area of police work each week.
To participate, you need to be 21 years old or older and must pass a background check. Priority is given to applicants who live or work in Warren and have not previously attended a citizen’s police academy.
The Warren Police Citizen’s Academy was created to provide citizens with a better understanding of the operation of the police department and police activity. Part of the goal is to increase awareness while dispelling suspicions and misconceptions through increased police/community rapport.
The Warren Police Department’s Citizen’s Academy will cover such diverse topics as training, communications, criminal investigations, drunk driving procedures, crime prevention, and split second decision-making. Emphasis is placed on the patrol division, as that is the segment of the police department that the public most often encounters.
Instruction in these and other topics will consist of lectures, demonstrations, tours and hands-on experiences.
To register, contact the Community Police Unit at 586-574-4875 or thouge@warrenpd.org.
