A new season of Lakeshore Public Media’s “Making the Grade” will air starting Monday. The quiz show features two high school teams that face off in an academic bowl-style competition.

The ninth season airs on Lakeshore PBS starting at 5:30 p.m. Monday. It is streaming online via Lakeshore PBS Passport, which requires a subscription.

Teams came from Andrean, Thea Bowman, Chesterton, Crown Point, Lowell, Merrillville, Portage, River Forest, South Central, Westville, Wheeler and Valparaiso.

Gavit and Kankakee Valley withdrew because of scheduling issues.

“I’m always excited to see the schools show up each year,” host Andy Schultz said in a statement. “We take their recognizable quiz bowl format, add lights, cameras, and buzzers, and have a chance see some very bright and talented students do their best work for a television audience.”

The show is a way for interested students to show off their smarts, officials said.

“I continue to be impressed, season after season, with how well-prepared the students are for this competition,” Lakeshore Public Media President & CEO James A. Muhammad said.

“From knowing scientific terms, historic events or advanced algebraic formulas, I always walk away from taping the show knowing the future is bright for Northwest Indiana,” he added.
