A Hammond man was convicted Monday after attacking an emergency room nurse in 2022.

Jerry Lee Anderson, 54, faced a one-day trial for battery.

Hammond police responded on Sept. 29, 2022, to Franciscan Health Hammond, or Margaret Mercy. The male nurse told cops that as he was trying to revive Anderson, he sprung awake and started punching him in the back of the head.

Anderson chased and kept punching him down the hall until the nurse tackled him.

Anderson could face a maximum sentence of one to six years. He rejected a potential plea offer for probation before the case went to trial.
