The intersection at 12 Mile and Hoover roads was closed Friday while Warren conducted an investigation in the aftermath of a crash that took down a utility pole and sent one person to the hospital.
According to local business owner Jack Erdman at 5:30 p.m. the intersection was “still really messed up.”
The crash occurred Friday at 9:08 a.m.
According to Warren Fire Commissioner Wilburt “Skip” McAdams, the driver of the BMW that hit the pole is in critical condition at Henry Ford Detroit Moross. The age and identity of the male driver is not known at this time.
The crash damaged two poles and caused one to fall and a box truck became tangled in the utility wires.
No other injuries were reported.
McAdams said the BMW driver was extracted from his vehicle at 9:18 a.m.
“DTE arrived on the scene very quickly — about 10 minutes after the crash occurred — and was able to secure the scene from an electrical standpoint,” McAdams said. “My understanding is that DTE was in the area which enabled them to get to the scene almost immediately.”
Investigation of the incident was turned over to the Warren Police Department and investigators were expected to be on the scene for several hours, possibly into Saturday.
CERT teams were at the intersection directing traffic Friday evening.
