Former Home Rule Commission member Mike Foster led the Superior Board of Trustees race, with incumbent trustees Jason Serbu and Sandie Hammerly following closely behind.
As of early Wednesday morning, Foster led the race, with 21.5% of the vote; followed by Serbu with 21%; and Hammerly with 20%.
Heather Cracraft followed with 19.4% of the vote; Gregory Horowitz had 13%; and George Kupfner had 5%.
Six candidates are running for three seats on the board, each to serve a four-year term.
Serbu said that if the Wednesday morning results hold, he looks forward to working with Foster on the board. Over his time with the board, Serbu worked with residents, the town and the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport to help mitigate noise.
“I want to work toward getting us, essentially gearing (the town) toward multi-generational housing,” Serbi said.
Serbu said that Superior’s population is aging, but that does not mean residents should leave their home. He wants to help the community have a home where they can age in place.
While first hesitant to get into politics, after helping lead a referendum petition against approval of a life sciences building in Downtown Superior. Organizing to form the petition made got him into politics to have more opportunities to help shape the town.
Hammerly and Serbu were appointed to the board in December 2022. Foster was elected to the Home Rule Charter Commission in November 2023. His work with the commission ended when the commission stopped writing the charter.
On the ballot, seven candidates appeared but Trustee Bob McCool withdrew his candidacy. His name remained on the ballot, but any votes for him were not counted.
