Top-ranked Bloomfield Hills continued its run of dominance by winning a third-straight Division 1 state title over the weekend in Byron Center.

The Black Hawks left with the program’s sixth title by earning 35 points, beating out runner-up Troy (27 points), who came into the weekend ranked No. 2 in the state.

Four other Oakland County programs cracked the top-10 team standings, including Brother Rice in fourth place (13 points), Stoney Creek tying for fifth (12), Novi in seventh (11) and and Troy Athens tying for eighth (10).

Also scoring points were Detroit Catholic Central (8), Rochester (6), Rochester Adams (6) and Clarkston (1).

Pierce Shaya finished his Blackhawks career by defeating Rochester’s Chad Anderson for the No. 1 singles title, 6-4, 6-1. After winning No. 3 singles as a freshman, he captured the No. 1 doubles crown with Merrick Chernett in 2022, then the No. 2 singles title last season as a junior.

Pierce Shaya finished his decorated Blackhawks career by defeating Rochester’s Chad Anderson for the No. 1 singles championship, 6-4, 6-1. Winner of the No. 3 singles flight as a freshman, Pierce won No. 1 doubles with Merrick Chernett in 2022, then was tops in No. 2 singles last season.

Connor Shaya, meanwhile, beat Stoney Creek’s Quentin Rangi (6-3, 6-1) for the No. 2 singles title, adding to his previous wins in the No. 3 and No. 4 singles flights.

Also from Bloomfield Hills, Zev Spiegel defeated Aarav Dalal of Ann Arbor Huron (6-3, 6-1) for the No. 3 singles title. Asher Langwell and Dominic Pascarella of the Blackhawks defeated Nick Song and Josh Kim from Northville for the No. 1 doubles title, 6-4, 7-6 (2), and BH’s Meyer Saperstein and Sajan Doshi defeated Nathan Shields and Anderson Herdoiza of Northville, 7-5, 6-2 for the No. 3 doubles championship.

Troy’s Dheeraj Yelleti beat out Bloomfield Hills’ Brady Winston to win No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1.

In the No. 2 doubles final, Northville pair Nikhil Karnani and Brian Zhang edged out Troy’s Varun Shetty and Anthony Wu, 7-6 (8), 2-6, 7-5. Troy tandem Jackson Kraus and Raghav Karur defeated Athens’ Suraj Makunar and Shreyan Muddappa, 6-0, 6-3 for the No. 4 doubles title.

Seaholm again falls just short of D2 title

The usual names were near the top of the standings, but again Birmingham Seaholm was looking up at the winner after this weekend’s Division 2 finals held at Kalamazoo College.

Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern. a second-place finisher itself in several recent seasons, won it all, while the Maples shared runner-up honors with Midland Dow, who came into the weekend ranked No. 1 just ahead of Seaholm. FH Northern finished with 26 points, while Dow and Seaholm each ended with 24 points.

Seaholm came second to Dow last fall, and finished third behind the other two schools in 2022.

Groves also cracked the top 10, taking eighth place with 11 points. North Farmington racked up eight points, Berkley finished with four, South Lyon East earned two and Walled Lake Central picked up one.

North Farmington’s Jack Weingarden, who was unseeded, won the No. 3 singles flight after Connor Schultz retired in the final. Meanwhile, in No. 4 singles, Seaholm’s Alex Ting beat out Siddarth Venkatesan (6-2, 6-3) to win the championship.

Seaholm racked up plenty of points in doubles, too. The Maples were winners in the No. 2 flight as Britton Leo and Aaryan Senthilvanan topped Forest Hills Central duo James Notarnicola and Sawyer Jordan (3-6, 7-5, 6-2). They also produced a winner in No. 4 doubles as Connor Champion and Andrew Wachowicz beat FH Northern’s Marcus Bernard and Will Hernly, 7-5, 6-2.Frankel, Fighting Irish earn points at D4 finals

West Bloomfield Frankel Jewish Academy and Pontiac Notre Dame Prep both picked up points at the Division 4 finals at Midland Tennis Center.

Frankel had players reach Round 3 of the No. 3 singles flight and No. 2 doubles flight to end up with five points, while the Irish had one in the third round of No. 2 singles and scored two points.

Yellowjackets split the D3 spoils with Greenhills

Detroit Country Day and Ann Arbor Greenhills each led with 32 points at Cranbrook, leading to a share of the D3 title.

The hosts, defending champions, ended behind the winners with 30 points, and top-seeded No. 1 singles player Ryan Michaels could have pushed the Cranes over the top, but was forced to retire in his semifinal match with Greenhills’ Teddy Staebler, who advanced and eventually won the title.

Second-seeded Kenneth Hu of Cranbrook edged out Country Day’s Dan Marin, seeded first, for the No. 2 singles championship, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-0.

Conversely, Yellowjackets’ Ricky Jeong beat Cranbrook’s Jace Bernard, 6-2, 6-0 for the No. 3 singles title. Country Day’s Adam Mahmoud defeated Eli Rosen of the Cranes in the No. 4 singles final (2-6, 6-2, 6-3).

Greenhills duo William Pearce and Kabir Rajendra defeated Country Day’s Charlie Khaghany and Achyut Reddy for the No. 1 doubles title, 7-5, 7-6 (5). Also from the Gryphons, Ajay Purohit and Charlie Rich won No. 2 doubles over Cranbrook’s Cole Kirschenbaum and Ryan VanDyke, 6-3, 6-3.

Richard Wu and Kirtan Palapattu of Greenhills beat Cranbrook duo Sanjay Lokum and Daniel Ma for the No. 3 doubles final (6-3, 6-3). The Yellowjackets won No. 4 doubles behind Rick Nie and Preston Blum, who beat Greenhills pair Lander Whelan and Deven Pimputkar, 6-2, 6-3.
