Chicago Gaelic Park was established more than 32 years ago to promote and foster Irish culture.
Gaelic Park will continue that tradition Sept. 17 starting at 1 p.m. during at its annual Heritage and Harvest Day, on the campus at 6119 W. 147th St., Oak Forest.
This free, family-friendly event includes activities for all ages.
Games for kids include a straw pillow fight, candy in the straw scramble, three-legged race, sack race, dizzy stick race, barrel race and water balloon toss.
Games for adults include a barrel race, Wellington throw, skittles and a three-legged race.
A soda bread baking contest calls for all bread to be made from scratch.
The entry must be dropped off by 1:30 p.m. The contest will begin at 3 p.m. Registration is required through the Gaelic Park front office at 708-687-9323.
A display of the national games of Ireland — hurling and football — will take place as youth athletes showcase their talent.
Other highlights of the day will include traditional Irish music performed by the Irish Musicians of Chicago, dancing exhibition by the Cross Keys Irish School of Dancing, farm animals, a display of antique tractors as well as Ceili and set dancing.
