Aptos High’s Cruz Contreras (132 pounds) took second place in his weight division at the 60-team Pat Lovell Holiday Classic at Aptos High on Saturday.

Contreras finished 4-1 with two wins by fall, won a 5-4 decision in the quarterfinals, and earned a major decision in the semifinals. He was pinned by Clovis’ Aiden Fernandez in the final.

Aptos’ Dominic Cabot (106) took third. San Lorenzo Valley’s Grady Cloyd (190) and Aptos’ Lucas Zuniga (215) took fourth, and Aptos’ Alfred Cabot (113) and Cole Moules (157) took sixth.

Team champion Clovis (239.5 points) produced two champions: Jaden Garcia (138) and Logan Struthers (150).

Clovis East had two champions, Jadyn Wren (120) and Jayden Olivas (126). And Ponderosa had two champs in Alex Mallot (113) and Kaden Martinez (157).

Other weight class champions were: Laguna Creek’s Zander Hoover (106), Everett Alvarez’s Jacob Perez (165), Pitman’s Brodie Johnson (175), Frontier’s Brock Rios (215), and Liberty’s Chad Troxler (285).

Pitman (204.5) took second, and Ponderosa (200) took third. Aptos (107.5) took 11th. SLV (43) took 33rd and Soquel (41) tied for 34th, Watsonville (22.5) took 46th, Harbor (18.5) took 49th, Pajaro Valley (18.5) took 49th, St. Francis (11) took 54th, Santa Cruz (7) took 59th, and Scotts Valley (5.5) took 60th.

Girls wrestling

Santa Cruz sophomore Marlena Gustafson (125) took second and classmate Onyx Escobar (140) took third.

Gustafson was pinned by Monterey junior Sophia Sevaaetasi in the final. Gustafson earned first-period pins against her first three opponents and finished 3-1.

Escobar lost to No. 1 seed Ella Myers of Monterey, the eventual champion, in the first round and won her next five matches to finish 5-1.

Harbor senior Addie Jones (115) and Watsonville freshman Damaris Dominguez (155) took fourth.

Monterey (206.0 points) took first in the 22-team event. Alisal (176.0) was second and Salinas (124.0) was third. Santa Cruz (68.0) took sixth, Harbor (18.0) was 18th, Watsonville (13.0) was 19th, Pajaro Valley (8.0) was 21st, and Soquel (0.0) was 22nd.
