OAKLAND — A 39-year-old Hayward man was fatally shot in the city’s Bartlett area Monday morning, authorities said.
His name has not yet been released by police.
The shooting happened about 7:12 a.m. Monday in the 3300 block of Arkansas Street, which is just south of Interstate 580 and west of 35th Avenue.
The man was found with at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased; his name was not publicly released pending confirmation of his identity and notification of his next of kin.
Investigators were trying to determine why he was in Oakland and why he was shot. Authorities said a person was detained at the scene for questioning but no arrests were announced.
The killing is the 28th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time, police had investigated the same number of homicides in the city.
