Residents who foster dogs and cats from the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus may be eligible for $25 to $50 nightly stipends, Riverside County 5th District Supervisor Yxstian Gutierrez announced.
The D5 Furry Pets Foster Care Program is open to 5th District residents to support the San Jacinto shelter, which is regularly at or above capacity, the county said in a news release.
“As a proud rescue dog owner, I want nothing more than to ensure the proper care of our pets,” Gutierrez said in the release. “They are our family, and they deserve the comfort of a loving home.”
Eligible 5th District residents must be 18 or older and have a valid driver’s license. For a limited time and while funding is available, participants will receive a $25 nightly stipend to foster an animal, or up to $50 a night if they foster a pair of dogs or cats, or take in a litter of puppies or kittens.
Program participants will be allowed to foster a pet for up to 21 days, and those who help find adoptive homes for pets in two weeks or less will receive a $150 bonus, according to Gutierrez’s office.
To participate, foster caregivers choose a pet from the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus, complete the sign-up process and participate in a brief foster orientation, according to the news release.
