Colorado lost some depth in the offensive line room Wednesday, as sophomore Zack Owens put his name into the transfer portal.
The 6-foot-6, 345-pound Owens, who spent one season at CU, was a starter at left guard for much of the spring, including during Saturday’s spring game.
Left tackle Jordan Seaton, who worked next to Owens all spring, said on Saturday, “Big Zack, he’s growing, man. He brings the energy to the O-line every single day. As far as his development, he lost the weight that he needed to lose. I feel like that’s what held him back last year. But now he’s starting to put everything together. He’s going to be a (key) guy.”
Owens, listed at 375 pounds last season, played in two games and redshirted at Clemson in 2023. He transferred to CU last year and appeared in 10 games, mainly on special teams. He played 11 snaps on offense.
Although the Buffs had him in the starting lineup this spring, it’s unclear what role Owens would have had this season. CU is targeting offensive linemen in the transfer portal, having brought four players to the team in January and recently adding former Memphis standout Xavier Hill.
