2024 Bolder Boulder was among biggest road running races nationwide
Running USA has released its list of 100 Largest Road Races in the U.S. for 2024 — and last year’s Bolder Boulder 10K ranked near the top.
The Bolder Boulder, one of Boulder’s marquee running events, has been held nearly every year on Memorial Day since 1979. Last year’s race placed fourth on Running USA’s list, up from a sixth-place ranking in 2023. The event drew 41,491 finishers in 2024, an 18.3% increase from 2023. It was even a stronger showing than 2019, a year before the COVID-19 pandemic struck and the race was forced to take a year off.
Last year’s BB10K was the biggest race in the western U.S., and the only larger races nationwide were the New York City Marathon, the Chicago Marathon and the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta. All signs suggest the race is not only surviving, but thriving, even after the pandemic temporarily shut it down.
“We are incredibly proud to be part of one of the largest and most celebrated races, not just in the U.S., but in the world,” race director Cliff Bosley said in a release. “The Bolder Boulder has become a Memorial Day tradition for the entire Boulder community, and that is something we hold dear.”
This year’s Bolder Boulder is set for May 26 and is open to athletes of all ages and ability levels.
BOULDER COUNTY
Marshall Fire tax rebate applications accepted through Friday
Homeowners who lost their homes in the Marshall Fire have until Friday to apply for use tax rebates through Boulder County.
So far, the county has awarded more than $1.91 million to homeowners for 563 homes that were lost in the fire. Property owners whose homes were destroyed and who have approved or pending permits to rebuild on the same property can get back up to 100% of the county use tax they had paid by the time their permit was issued, with some maximum limits.
The upper limit is $3,500 for permits issued in 2022 and $4,200 for permits issued in 2023, 2024 or 2025. The maximum is higher for 2023-25 because use taxes were increased through new voter-approved ballot measures.
To be eligible for the rebate, property owners must have an approved rebuilding permit for Marshall Fire by no later than Friday. They must have owned the home when the fire occurred and remain the owners of the same property while the rebuild is in progress. Lot owners are not eligible.
However, homeowners can apply online at disaster-recovery.impactdf.org before Friday even if they are missing some of the needed documentation. For existing applications, property owners must submit permit documentation by Feb. 28.
Note that Louisville and Superior have separate use tax relief programs for their residents.
