CHIPPEWA LAKE – What began as a simple booklet of memories of Chippewa Lake Park nearly three years ago has resulted in the formation of the Chippewa Lake Ohio Historical Society and a written history of the area in book form soon to go to the publisher.
Amber Dalakas, a resident of Chippewa, who previously authored a book about Brunswick for Arcadia Publishing, said saw the value in telling the story of Chippewa Lake. Dalakas was already on board with the memory booklet so it was a natural sequence, with her experience, to approach Arcadia with the Chippewa Lake book idea. Arcadia is the same company that published Chippewa Lake Park by David Francis for their Images of America series in 2004.
With the help of Sharon Karhan, a Chippewa resident with a lifelong attachment to the lake, her parents having a summer cottage since they married; and this article’s author, Gayle Foster, whose parents had a home at the lake since 1953 and has very deep roots at Chippewa, the trio has been gathering pictures, information and dates that will document life at Chippewa through the years.
With the deadline quickly approaching, the co-authors are compiling pictures, editing text and planning the layout of the finished product to send to Arcadia Publishing. The hope is to have a completed book in the hands of readers by autumn.
All proceeds from sales of the book will go to the Chippewa Lake Ohio Historical Society. An announcement of pre-sales orders will be forthcoming.
