MONTVILLE – Montville Police are investigating the theft of an enclosed metal cargo trailer, owned by Sullivan Boy Scout Troop 556, which was stolen from the parking lot of Letter Perfect Design Group at 4900 Chippewa Road, near Wooster Pike, sometime between 6:30 p.m. Feb. 10 and 8 a.m. Feb. 11.

The brand-new 7-by-16-foot trailer, valued at $4,500, contained an aluminum Pinewood Derby track worth $2,150, owned by Cub Scout Pack 556, according to Mike Jackson, Scoutmaster of Troop 556.

Shawn Newman, owner of LP Design, said the trailer, which was parked in a lot shared by several businesses, including his, had been brought there about a week or so earlier for graphic design and lettering. In addition, shelving was to be installed for storage of items for camping trips. Also, a specialized storage case was to be built for the aluminum track.

He said there were a number of other vehicles in the multi-tenant lot. He recalled that at least one other tenant had a truck that was broken into recently and tools were stolen.

Montville Police Officer Seth Gaede said there are no leads or suspects in the investigation, which is ongoing.

“We are checking footage from all surveillance cameras in the adjacent area,” he said, adding, “We’re hoping they will reveal the make and model of the suspect vehicle.” Anyone with any information is asked to call Gaede at the Montville Police Department, 330-725-8314, Ext. 1616.

Jackson said the 30-plus members of Cub Scout Pack 556 sold popcorn to raise funds to purchase the track. The trailer was funded by a grant from the Ashland County Community Foundation and is insured though the troop’s charter organization, The First Congregational Church of Sullivan.
