MEDINA – Travel through the north side of town will take a little longer than before as work continues on the Pearl Road/state Route 42 (North Court Street) widening project.
Only one lane is open in each direction on Pearl Road north of Reagan Parkway to just south of Fenn Road as the west side of the roadway is being reconstructed and will shift over to the east side after that. This phase of the project will last until mid-July, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation, which is managing the project.
Reagan Parkway will have no left turn lane onto North Court Street, but left turn lanes will be available at Grande Boulevard/Stonegate, Hillview/Ledgewood drives and North Court onto Reagan Parkway. Ten-foot lane widths will be maintained at all times in both directions, according to ODOT.
Pat Patton, city engineer for Medina, said about 600 feet of Reagan Parkway at the North Court Street intersection will also be reconstructed and there will be six days, three for each side, where the roadway will be one-way as pavement is poured. It is expected this will occur in late June.
A portion of Hillview Way, which runs west of North Court on the city’s northern border, will also be reconstructed near the intersection, Patton said. Work will start within the next few weeks.
Further south, there will be intermittent lane closures from just south of Harding Street to just south of Reagan Parkway.
Work began last fall with work on water lines and replacement of storm sewers along the roadway.
The current work is part of a larger $17 million project that will widen the roadway from south of Harding Street to just north of Fenn Road in Medina Township, which is about 1.4 miles in length. This will include installing two through lanes in each direction with left turn lanes at side road intersections.
The portion north of Reagan Parkway will be done in 2017, with the southern half to be completed in 2018.
A center median in the Medina city limits with LED lighting, a 10-foot sidewalk on the west side of the road and 5 feet on the east side will also be part of the project, according to ODOT engineers. Storm sewers and traffic signals will also be replaced along the length of the construction area.
The project is scheduled to be completed in October 2018. Specific project work can be found online at transportation.ohio.gov/42.
