MEDINA COUNTY – Leadership Medina is a well-established nonprofit organization bringing educational and leadership development to men and women who either live or work in Medina County.

The first class graduated in 1992.

The current class of nearly 40 participated in a tour of farms and similar operations on March 15 in what has come to be known as Agriculture Day.

The day began with breakfast at Boyert’s Farm and, traveling by motor coach, continued on to such stops as the Ramsier Farm in Rittman, Buckin’ Ohio in Burbank, the Arters’ Farm in Chatham and Richman Farms in Lodi. The group stopped for lunch at Letha House Park near Chatham where members of the Black River High School FFA helped serve locally sourced sirloin tips, salad, apple strudel and fresh milk, as prepared by Kayleigh Keller of Keller Meats and Whole Hogg Custom Catering of Valley City. Keller was assisted by Patty Boyert and Deb Indoe, all members of the Medina County Farm Bureau.

Jody Wheaton of Cuyahoga Community College took time to share her experience with Leadership Medina.

She said, “It’s been a wonderful day so far. A lot of learning how agriculture impacts Medina County.”

By lunchtime, the group had learned about the milking process using robotics and enjoyed the tour of Buckin’ Ohio.

In the course of the year-long program, monthly meetings cover such topics as history, education, health and human services and manufacturing in the county.

Participants Jenn Gray, Jamie Stilla and Johnny Hojnacki shared their renewed appreciation for farmers and their importance in the local community and beyond.
