WADSWORTH – The Blue Tip Festival might seem like a fun, carefree event for many participants, but it couldn’t happen every year without a dedicated committee who work for months to figure out every detail.

Mike Leavitt, chairman of the Blue Tip Festival Committee, said planning for the festival begins months in advance.

“We have a great committee and are very grateful for all of our volunteers,” he said. “Everyone is really great at handling certain things successfully. They might come to the group for some discussion, but they know how to handle the details. For example, Tom Morris has handled the parade for so many years. That’s not something I even have to think about. J.P. Hanna is great at handling all of the details for KidsLand.”

As the festival continues to grow, Leavitt said it might be nice to add a few new members to the community to help with planning.

“We have a lot of great volunteers during the event, but we are looking for people who want to come on this three to five month journey with us on the committee,” he said.

The committee includes Leavitt, who serves as president of the committee and is also in charge of sports events; Tom Morris, treasurer and parade organizer; Abby Morris, Matchstick race organizer; Paul Weekley, grounds and electrical; Dwight Powers, grounds and equipment; Duane Montgomery, permits; Tim Cole, sponsors, PR and special events; Meg Cole, sponsorship and PR; Kim Hawkins, secretary, merchant tent and nonprofits; Judy Roth, concessions and merchant tent; Dennis Roth, grounds, events and concessions; Gary and Sue Williams, live entertainment; and J.P. Hanna, KidsLand.
