WADSWORTH – Young festival goers will get the opportunity to show off their athletic skills this year at the Blue Tip Festival during the first ever Ultimate Youth Sports Challenge.
This new event will take place at the festival grounds Saturday, June 24 from 1 to 5 p.m. Kids 12 and under will have the chance to test their skills in baseball, softball, football, basketball, lacrosse and soccer.
Each kid will be given a score card to keep track of their performance. At the end, trophies will be awarded to a boy and girl from eight different age groups as the Ultimate Youth Athlete. The day will also include many giveaways and merchandise for participants.
“It was one of those things we had been kicking around,” said Blue Tip Committee President Mike Leavitt. “We like doing things that draw a lot of community involvement and wanted something where kids could be active.”
Each sports challenge will include a few different skills such as punt, pass and kick in football and hit, pitch and run in baseball.
“It’s a good opportunity for kids to try out different things and see what they like,” Leavitt said. “It also gives some of these athletic groups like lacrosse or WASA to come to the festival and showcase what they have to offer.”
