First Street standoff ends peacefully
Male resident charged with aggravated menacing
WADSWORTH – A 35-year-old First Street man is in custody after police say he threatened to shoot individuals inside of his home in the early morning hours of June 27.
Brian Newsome, 35, has been charged with one count of aggravated menacing, a first degree misdemeanor.
Police received a 911 call at approximately 2:30 a.m. from a female resident at 248 First Street advising that her husband was in possession of several firearms and was making threats to shoot the other adults in the household.
Police officers responded to the scene and evacuated the three individuals from the single family residence along with occupants from several surrounding homes. The Medina County SWAT team was activated and responded to the scene along with officers from the Medina County Sheriff’s Office, Rittman Police Department and Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Newsome surrendered at approximately 4:30 a.m. after negotiating with officers at the scene. He was taken into custody and transported to the Medina County Jail. He will be arraigned by video through the Wadsworth Municipal Court.
No one was injured during the incident and no children were present or reside in the home.
