High Street Widening Project

During the initial phases of construction on the High Street widening project, we have been busy attending to developing traffic and access issues that are not always apparent until the work begins. We have made it a priority to work closely with the project manager, ODOT, in facilitating the flow of traffic. One issue that came to light recently was the timing of the traffic signals near the High Street bridge over Interstate 76.

As a result, several substantial changes were made to the traffic signal timing and programming, which are intended to improve the movement of traffic in and around the work zone. You may have noticed substantial road work being done just north of Dunkin Donuts and to the property north of KFC.

This work includes the creation of new access roadways that are being built in those areas that will provide access to businesses along High Street and will not connect to neighborhood streets. A construction map is available on the City’s website at http://www.wadsworthcity.com/the-city/home/high-street-project.html.

The construction map identifies these access roads as alleys, however these access roads, together with the roadway widening, medians and additional traffic signals are intended to provide drivers with safer and more efficient access to all businesses along High Street and for travel along the busy corridor. When completed, the alley that is numbered 2 on the website map will provide signalized access to High Street from Casa Del Rio, Marathon and Dunkin Donuts and the alley that is numbered 1 will provide access to High Street from the KFC and Legacy Inn area.

Additional access roads north of the bridge will be built as the project continues. Major work is also currently taking place south of bridge on the waterline and the widening of High Street.

Please refer to the city’s website link above for up to date information on the progress of the project. Again, we appreciate your patience with this much needed improvement to our city.

Consumer scams

Attorney General Mike DeWine has created a new website at www.ohioprotects.org to help educate consumers about scams and offer the opportunity for them to register complaints. The site highlights three scams currently: computer repair, IRS and contractor scams.

The computer repair scammer calls a person and says that there is a problem with their computer. But what really happens is that the scammer steals information from the computer and sometimes installs a virus to make the consumer pay to eradicate. In the case of the IRS scam, the caller threatens that the IRS will be suing the consumer or in some cases, the caller pretends to represent another law enforcement agency. In the contractor scam, the scammer takes the money or a hefty down payment up front and doesn’t complete the work.

The attorney general’s office is aggressively pursuing these individuals, but often the consumer’s money isn’t able to be recovered, once it has been paid.

Until next week …
