Now is the time to do your job, Congressman Renacci
letter to the editor
To the Editor:

We sent Jim Renacci to Washington, D.C. with two jobs: to rein-in out-of-control government spending and to repeal Obamacare. After years in office, we’ve heard all of the excuses. Over the past several elections, voters nationwide have given the Republicans, the House, the Senate and now the White House a chance. The moment of truth has arrived.

With several show votes to defund Obamacare under his belt, and all in order to appease a growingly restless electorate, we now have a president who would actually sign such a bill – and what are Mr. Renacci and his colleagues doing? Tinkering with the periphery of a law, rather than repealing it and tearing it out of our lives by its invasive tentacles forever. Don’t tell me about the 20 million who will lose their health insurance. An equal or greater number of Americans lost theirs when they lost their full-time jobs due to skyrocketing health care costs caused by the ACA in the first place. Many had to find multiple part-time jobs to make ends meet.

I just read about HR1313, the Preserving Employee Wellness Programs Act. This bill was introduced by Republicans on March 2, and would override the Genetic Privacy and Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) protections for employees by employers that provide wellness programs. Expect, with this spineless Congress, this bill to find its way into the mish mash of Congress’ “fix” to the ACA. Instead of eliminating the financial burdens and government intrusiveness in our lives, Congress is hellbent on controlling even more of it!

Mr. Renacci prides himself on reaching across the aisle in an effort to create bi-partisan support, or perhaps so he doesn’t have to eat alone. You never hear about the liberals reaching out. The Democrats passed Obamacare without one Republican vote and never even allowed the bill to be read before its passing. Of course, with an “F” rating of 55 percent by the Conservative Review, Mr. Renacci doesn’t have to reach very far.

I’ve grown weary of his staff-written columns and his weekly phone calls with prearranged questions to WTAM. Now is the time to do your job, Mr. Renacci. You ran for office on repealing Obamacare. Introducing a bill to honor the Pro Football Hall of Fame with a coin isn’t going to cut it any longer.
