SHARON – For the past 28 years, the Sharon Women’s Club has awarded college scholarships to deserving high school graduates and college students who live in Sharon Township.

The amount and number of awards may vary, depending on the funds the club can raise.

Its biggest fundraiser is the annual Fall Fest. For the past two years, the club has awarded four $1,000 scholarships each year.

More funds for scholarships

Clearly the dedicated efforts of the women’s club did not go unnoticed, as recently the board of trustees of the Hillier Family foundation recognized the Sharon Women’s Club as “a charitable service organization with experience in granting scholarships to qualified graduates of Highland High School.” As a result, the foundation trustees voted to grant the sum of $10,000 annually to the Sharon Women’s Club as long as the club uses the funds in the following way: $5,000 to be used to grant scholarships annually for graduating seniors and college students residing in Sharon Township.

An additional $5,000 annually shall be used to provide either technical or building trades scholarships to Highland High School graduates who have received two-year completion certificates from the Medina County Career Center.

There are 27 Highland graduating seniors enrolled in 13 different programs at the MCCC, including information technology, precision machining, engineering, animal care and cosmetology, to name a few.

Applications for either type scholarship can be found at www.sharontwp.org, www.highlandhighschool.org, or www.mcjvs.edu.

They must be submitted by April 18 to Sharon Women’s Club, P.O. Box 45, Sharon Center, OH 44274.
