WADSWORTH – Thanks to a video recording captured by a witness, the police department was able to identify the juveniles responsible for causing damage to Kaleidoscope playground.
The playground was damaged the evening of June 6 and police officers learned of the video during the investigation. As a result of the video, the juveniles involved allegedly confessed to their actions, according to a press release from the Wadsworth Police Department.
According to the police department, the investigation was forwarded to the Medina County Juvenile Prosecutor for consideration of criminal charges against the suspects, both of whom are 15 years old.
“We have signed charges against one of the two juveniles,” Police Chief Randall Reinke said. “I believe it is for criminal damaging. We are following up to see if there will be charges against the other juvenile.”
Reinke said he hasn’t seen the video, but added he is grateful for the citizens who stepped up and alerted the police.
“There are no cameras out there, but somebody saw what was going on and was upset about it and took the video and reported it and that was very beneficial,” Reinke said.
The cost of the repairs to the damaged areas of the playground is estimated at $400.
The playground is located adjacent to Wadsworth Memorial Park and is a 14,000-square-foot wooden playground structure that was built by 1,000 local community volunteers in 1995.
