MEDINA – Public Square filled with members of Heartland Community Church gathering to worship when the church held a picnic and baptism July 9.
The day started with a worship service and then continued with several family activities and games throughout the area of the square.
Jenn Carter, who coordinated the program, said this picnic has been held on an annual basis for many years outside the church building, but this is the first year it has been held at the square.
“I hope that they (the public) see that our church is actively involved in the community, the people that love Christ and love others,” she said.
The worship service was accompanied by the church’s band, who led the congregation in song. Pastor Dave Ambrose then delivered his weekly sermon.
“We’re going to celebrate the fact that Jesus transforms lives,” he said.
As part of that mission, 16 parishioners were baptized during the service. Each baptism recipient had a friend or relative read their story of faith to the congregation before Ambrose baptized them.
Carter and Ambrose said they see the church picnic and baptism as a way to reach out to the community and to welcome new parishioners to Heartland Community Church with open arms.
“Anybody is welcome to join us at our church,” Ambrose said.
Heartland Community Church is located at 3400 Weymouth Road in Medina Township. Sunday services are generally held at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. each week.
