
Highland High School seniors Alexandria Chorba and Matthew Bakes have been selected as the Medina County Kiwanis April Students of the Month by a panel of their peers.
Chorba is an outstanding student who has participated in the adopt-a-family fundraiser at Holy Martyrs Church. She also has been a part of the spirit club and is an editor for the Highland High School newspaper. She is a peer leader and DARE role model and is a member of the National Honor Society. Chorba has been a member of the Lady Hornets softball team for the past four years and was named a scholar athlete. She was part of the Ohio-All Star team during her sophomore year. She is the daughter of Gary and Andrea Chorba of Granger Township. She will attend college upon her graduation from Highland and plans to pursue a degree in chemical engineering.
Bakes is an active member of the HHS Key Club, marching band and his church youth group. He was a member of the Highland speech and debate team and served as a sixth-grade camp counselor. He has also served as a Boy Scout of America for five years and has volunteered during the Veteran’s Day assembly. He is the son of Randy and Kelly Bakes of Sharon Township. He plans to pursue a degree in business upon his graduation from Highland High School.
