Wadsworth Hunt Club events are about more than hunting
Letter to the Editor
To the Editor:
The Wadsworth Hunt Club is not just about hunting. It started out as a club of hunters wanting places to hunt, but now we are getting our youths interested in gun and bow safety. In the months to come: July 29, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. we sponsor our first shot program at the club grounds, open to the public, learn about different firearms and get your first shot. On Aug. 12 is our fourth annual tag sale at club grounds with all proceeds benefitting our youth programs. On Sept. 24 from 12-3 p.m. is our annual fish fry, free for members, farmers with land allowing hunting, people interested in good fish, door prizes and a good time; it is $7 a ticket. On Nov. 4 is our youth pheasant hunt. Plus there is two fishing camps for our youths. For more information, contact Ron Jones, club president, 330-607-4211.

We also have a person in charge of distributing food for families in need, most on which is donated by members and outside donations.

At Thanksgiving, the club adopts a family. That family receives food for Thanksgiving dinner. They are asked to provide a wish list from their kids. the club comes together to raise money to buy toys. Before Christmas, Santa visits with the kids while his “helper” delivers toys and food for a Christmas dinner.

We have a range committee, a charitable work committee, a person in charge of our youth fishing and a person in charge of our youth pheasant hunts. Members who belong to the NRA and are safety instructors in firearms and bowhunting. We help out with getting our kids interested in gun safety and at the fishing derby, they learn about fishing and making their own fishing rods.

Our youth pheasant hunt allows each kid a chance to shoot two pheasants, shoot clay pigeons and how to clean their birds.

Both the fishing derby and the hunts are done with adult supervision.

I joined the club in the mid ’80s. I thought it was all hunting, was I ever wrong. It is much more than that with youth programs, a fish fry, charitable work and adopting a family over the holidays.
