
Mary Catherine Johnson, 90, long-time resident of Medina, passed away May 9, 2017. She was born in Wingate, Ind., on Aug. 12, 1926, to the late Irodel and Pearl (Langford) Ping. Mary was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was an employee of Westfield Insurance Company for years. Mary served on the Board of the Medina County Mental Retardation and Developmental Disability for 10 years, where she advocated tirelessly for teachers and students. Mary and her husband, Harlan, were long, strong political advocates for the mentally retarded in Ohio. They also participated in competitive ballroom dancing for many years, and they loved to travel together. She also organized and led the Medina Friends Gospel Singers, and was an avid bridge player. Mary will be remembered for her love of God, her family and her friends.
Mary is survived by her husband of 73 years, Harlan Johnson; daughters, Carolyn (Tom-dec.) Keating, Kathryn (Roger) Goodfellow; daughter-in-law, Marjorie (David- dec.) Johnson; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sons, David and Warren Johnson.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
