WADSWORTH – City and ODOT officials are hopeful that newly placed delineators, used to control traffic flow, will help to clear up some confusion in the construction zone on state Route 94.

“The city requested these delineators be installed in certain locations to help the motoring public understand where the center line is,” Service Director Robert Patrick said. “We have heard some positive comments about them.”

Patrick said these delineators will likely remain in place throughout 2017 while construction on the widening project is being completed. He said the delineators have what is known as a breakaway functionality where they collapse and then snap back up into place if they are struck by a vehicle.

Once the widening is completed permanent median strips that are six to 10 inches high will be placed in the center of the road throughout the corridor.

“I think the initial issue was to put down these delineators to help make solve the problem with the lack of pavement markings,” Patrick said. “But later I think another response will be that these delineators will help to get people used to the new traffic patterns and it won’t be as much of a surprise when the medians are installed.”

Patrick said the city is also working to create some overhead signage which will help direct motorists into the correct lane in the area of Route 94.

Motorists have expressed concern and confusion after the original striping done by ODOT quickly faded away due to cold and wet weather. Workers have since restriped two more times with the same result and Patrick said it is possible they will restripe an additional time in the future.

City officials have said that if the weather is cooperative the project could be complete by the end of 2017.
