SHARON – Upwards of 2,000 children and their parents were at Sharon Community Park April 15 to welcome the Easter Bunny, who arrived on the heavy rescue fire truck.
After greeting the children, the bunny stayed to watch the eager youngsters find more than 16,000 candy-filled eggs scattered on the playing fields. Within three minutes, every egg had been found. Eighty-five Easter baskets, 200 stuffed animals, 260 bottles of bubbles, sidewalk chalk, puzzles, crayons and coloring books, all contributed, were awarded as prizes. More than 1,000 toothbrushes, donated by Keystone Pediatric Dentistry of Medina, were given to those in attendance.
Visitors were encouraged to help themselves to refreshments, which included donut holes and hot chocolate.
The Sharon Township Firefighters’ Association, sponsor of the event, extended a special thank-you to township trustees Ray Lurtz, Kim Miller and Brian Guccion for purchasing the eggs.
The association also thanked the following businesses and organization for their generous donations, all of which helped make the event a success. They include: Sharon Automotive, Dave Citino Hauling, Hillier Family Foundation, Plate Engraving Corp., Rinky Dink Family Fun Center, Keystone Pediatric Dentistry, The Godard School-Medina, Sharon Community Trusts, Sharon Women’s Club, Robertson Sawmill, Sharon Township Heritage Society, the Velotta Co. and Worrell Advertising.
“We also want to thank the many residents and families who donated candy, money or volunteered their time to help make the Easter party a success,” said Diane Citino and Janet George, who organized the popular event. They also thanked Medina County sheriff’s deputies for their help in managing traffic.
There is concern that following the day’s events, not everyone left the empty plastic eggs to be refilled next year. Organizers reminded this is a free event, and cooperation is needed from all to keep it that way. If you have any empty eggs, please return them to the fire station.
