Suspects sought for recent Sharon barn thefts
Residents urged to lock up expensive equipment

SHARON – Several hundred dollars’ worth of tools were stolen in a breaking and entering with theft case at a Ridgewood Road barn, located between State and Medina Line roads.

According to Sgt. Todd Heckel of the Medina County Sheriff’s Office, the items were stolen sometime during the night of July 11 or the early morning hours of July 12.

He said a nearby neighbor reported a missing walk-behind weed-whacker, which he had left near his house the previous evening. The deputy said the item was found later against a fence at the far end of the neighbor’s property, along with an additional weed-whacker whose owner has not been identified.

“It appears the unknown suspects put both large items against the fence at the end of the property and planned to return for them,” Heckel said. “The investigation is ongoing.”

He asked any community members who know anything about the theft to call the sheriff’s office at 330-725-6631.

Heckel asked residents to call the sheriff’s office immediately if they see anything suspicious or out of place.

“We’d rather come out and investigate and find there is not a problem, than not be called in case there is a problem,” he said.

He also urged residents to keep their doors locked, and to make sure their equipment is locked up. Often this kind of theft is a crime of opportunity, he explained.

In what Medina County Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Kevin Ross said appears to be incidents related to the Ridgewood Road break-in and theft, on July 15 two Pin Oak Drive residents discovered their barns had been broken into and tools had been taken. The owner of the above-mentioned weed whacker was determined to be one of the Pin Oak Drive residents.

Ross said the investigation is ongoing.

“We’re looking at several persons of interest,” he said.
