
The Highland Hornets youth wrestling team recently competed in the Ohio Youth Wrestling Association (OYWA) state tournament at Firestone High school and took first place. The league consists of over 150 youth wrestling teams across the state and over 3,000 individual wrestlers. The Hornets qualified 16 wrestlers for the tournament out of 20 possible weight classes. The team finished with nine placers and one individual champion – Creed Hill at 86 pounds. During the regular season the team was undefeated in dual meets. They went 5-0 in winning the Tom Lorenz Memorial tournament at Jackson; going 4-0 at Wadsworth Elite Duals; and winning the Highland Duals with a 4-0 record. They won team titles at their sectional and district tournament as well. OYWA State qualifiers and placers include: Brandon Bickerton, 52 pounds, fifth place; Kegan Prothero, 60 pounds; Conner Haney, 64 pounds; Joey Zywiec, 70 pounds; Ayden Boucher, 73 pounds; Chase Crutchley, 79 pounds, fourth place; Joey Vazsonyi, 82 pounds, third place; Creed Hill, 86 pounds, first place; Michael Mancuso, 90 pounds; Behlen Waugh, 100 pounds; Antony Onopko 105 pounds, fifth place; Matthew Haney, 110 pounds, sixth place; Noah Robinson, 120 pounds, third place; Luke Stiles, 132 pounds, fourth place; Max Muzcycka, 150 pounds; and Danny Giannini, 175 pounds, third place.
