Lake Erie water system to be extended from state Route 18
Work is expected to begin by middle of 2018
SHARON – When Sharon Township Trustees met Aug. 8, Medina County Sanitary Engineer Amy Lyon-Galvin outlined plans to extend the County’s existing water system from state Route 18 to the south to serve residents living in the Sharon Circle area.

She said the county will construct new water lines from state Route 18 south on state Route 94 around the circle and north on State Road to loop back to State Route 18. Existing water mains on east and west state Route 162 will also be replaced. An emergency interconnection between the county’s water system and the City of Wadsworth water system will likely be relocated south on state Route 94 to maximize the county’s customer service area.

In extending the county’s Lake Erie water system to Sharon Township, the Sharon Springs water treatment plant can be abandoned. As an equal amount of water must be returned to the Lake Erie Watershed, the county will abandon one of the two sanitary lift stations, and reroute the waste water north on State Road to discharge into the state Route 18 sanitary sewer for treatment at the Liverpool wastewater treatment plant.

Work is expected to begin by mid-2018, according to Lyon-Galvin. There will be no charge to existing customers, she said. The project will cost $3.7 million, and funding is likely to be provided by a loan from the Ohio Water Development Authority.

A thank-you
Mark Funfgeld, co-founder of the Nickified Foundation told trustees that the foundation, which was formed following the death of his and his wife’s 4-year-old special needs son, Nicholas, in November, 2012, the recent fifth annual fundraiser party to benefit families of special needs children netted $15,000. Upwards of 200 people were in attendance at the event.

Funfgeld thanked the trustees and St. Paul Lutheran Church for loaning the tables and chairs and Bob Turek for his help. He extended his thanks to The Post and its reporter for the publicity it provided.
