A community is built by it’s resources, support MCDL
letter to the editor
To the Editor:

I am writing in support of Medina County District Library’s local funding that is on the May 2 ballot.

My love of libraries began in grade school and a history project on the pioneer days. I used the Garfield Heights branch of Cuyahoga County Public Library. I remember the wealth of information that I found both on my own and then the librarian’s additional reference materials!

Later in life, during hardships of job searching, the library was there to support me with computer access and databases of career and resume preparation. The library and her staff has supported me – always!

MCDL’s levy will cost about $8.75 additional annually for every $100,000 of assessed home value. That’s less than the cost of one paperback book! Less than a lunch out with friends! Less than a membership to Amazon Kindle Books, a movie with my hubby at the local theater or a few cups of coffee a year. Such a little amount of money for so much wealth and knowledge! Even if you don’t borrow books, the library helps the unemployed find jobs, offers computer classes to enhance skills, has free meeting rooms available for everyone from Girl Scout troops to addiction support groups, art shows, STEAM programming for students, passports, outreach to the elderly and homebound. The library also offers summer reading for kids, story times, early literacy and kindergarten readiness programs, free digital downloads, help with technology – and the list goes on and on!

As a Medina County resident, our library supports all of it’s citizens. I am proud to be a part of this community and a strong community is built by it’s resources.

I urge you to support Medina County District Library on May 2; it’s the right thing to do for your families and it is important to the quality of life of all residents in Medina County. Knowledge is power!
