GRANGER – About 500 children and their parents were on hand the afternoon of April 15 to welcome the Easter Bunny. While the children were anxiously waiting for the bunny, Fire Chief Jim Paulett told them the bunny would be arriving in a special “Bunny Mobile.”

He did not disappoint. Shortly thereafter, the Easter Bunny arrived at the Granger fire station in grand style. He was chauffeured in a vehicle called a Slingshot, which was escorted by a Granger fire truck. A Slingshot has been described as a three-wheeled cross between a motorcycle and a car. It was loaned to Granger Fire and Rescue for this special occasion by State 8 Motors on Medina Road.

After greeting the children, the friendly bunny joined in the fun inside the fire station as the youngsters hunted for wrapped candy hidden in straw to fill their baskets. Each child was then allowed to choose a gift from the treasure-trove of cuddly, stuffed animals. All in attendance were invited to stay for refreshments, which were prepared and donated by members of the Granger Township Firefighters’ Association and their families. The flowers were donated by Berry’s Blooms of Granger. Firefighter/paramedic Lt. Carol Redford organized the event.

For the fourth year in a row, Caleb Schuster, a Granger firefighter/paramedic and the owner of Schuster Photography of Granger, took pictures at the event and posted them on his Web site. Parents may retrieve and print their child’s picture with the Easter Bunny by visiting calebschusterphotography.com. Pictures can also be found at the Granger Firefighters Facebook page. Schuster offers this service free of charge.
