To the Editor:
For the past 16 years, I have had the honor and privilege of serving in the capacity as the administrative office manager for the Mayor’s Office for the City of Medina.
When I was hired in 2002 under former Mayor Jane Leaver, I was not planning on staying for longer than her first term. I was 22 years old, recently married, recently graduated from college with my bachelor’s degree and searching for my place in this world. I had planned to attend graduate school to obtain my master’s degree in psychology to start an entirely different career.
At the time, I was too naive to realize God’s plan for my life was to be right where he planted me – 132 N. Elmwood Ave.
Looking back over the years, I can list thousands of life lessons, some hard and some easy. I can list thousands of examples of humility and selflessness by city employees, community leaders, first responders and constituents. I can list thousands of crazy stories that would leave you scratching your head after reading about them wondering, “did that really happen?” I can assure you, my friend, that yes, yes it did. I have often joked that one day I will write a book about public service.
About five months ago, I made the decision to retire from my position. My last day as the administrative office manager for Mayor Dennis Hanwell is May 12, 2017. Typing that sentence makes me tear up. This has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I can assure each one of you reading this who live and work in the city of Medina that you have the best of the best running this city and the most caring, selfless group of people working for you.
From Mayor Hanwell, seven members of Medina City Council, 13 department heads, to the clerical staff in city hall, the service department personnel, parks and recreation, police, fire and our law department, you will not find a more dedicated group of men and women who serve day in and day out.
To all of the city employees I have worked alongside throughout my career, thank you. Thank you for your daily laughs, your hard work, your dedication, your determination and your giving hearts.
To Mayor Hanwell, thank you for deciding to run as mayor in 2009 and keeping me to work alongside of you for the past seven years. It has been a privilege. Thank you for your dedication, your servant leadership, your Christian faith and your friendship.
To the members of this community who I have grown to know and love, thank you for allowing me to serve you. It truly has been a pleasure serving in this capacity and I consider myself incredibly lucky to had been given this opportunity 16 years ago.
Thank you to everyone that I have crossed paths with. I hope to see you all around town!
