WADSWORTH – A new face will be present at council meetings starting this month.

The democratic central committee voted Aug. 9 to appoint Lee Potts to the position of Ward 3 Councilor replacing John Sharkey, who retired from the position July 31.

“It is a great honor to be able to serve the citizens of Wadsworth,” Potts said. “It is something I have wanted to do for a long time. I enjoy this city so much.”

Potts, who is an attorney with a practice in Wadsworth, will serve as Ward 3 Councilor until the end of the year when the term is up. Sharkey had chosen not to run for re-election and earlier this year Potts filed to run for the Ward 3 seat. He will face off against Republican Joe Magnacca in November.

Now that he is serving Ward 3, Potts said he wants to get to know as many constituents as possible and is planning to set up ward meetings.

“I think I have found a venue and this is something we could set up predetermined like maybe a certain day each month,” he said. “It would be a nice forum where constituents would have the change to voice their concerns. Although they can contact me any time. I’m very available on social media and my phone number is on Facebook.”

“I’m really proud that Lee is part of our group and that he is taking this office sooner than we expected,” said Josh Booth of the Wadsworth Democrats. “We are going to do everything we can to help him keep this seat.”

After first announcing his candidacy, Potts said he is looking forward to working with council to combat the drug epidemic and also in supporting local law enforcement. Potts is also very involved with area non-profit Project LEARN, an organization that provides free one-on-one and small group tutoring to adults in Medina County who want to improve their skills in reading, math, problem solving and English as a second language.
