Winfield Gant Jr.
Winfield Gant Jr., affectionately known as “Daddy Preacher,” departed this life on Nov. 12, 2016. He was born Dec. 31, 1923 in Weldon, Ark. to the late Rose and Winfield Gant, and he was lovingly raised by Maude “Big Momma” Gant.
Winfield confessed Christ at an early age and belonged to Honey Grove Church in Tupelo, Ark. Upon relocating to Ohio, he spent most of his time in Cleveland at Celebration Methodist Church, where he was a very active member. He was employed at Chevy in Parma for 30 years and enjoyed traveling and league bowling during his retirement. Winfield recently moved back to Medina with his wife of 52 years, Enid. He was a veteran of World War II.
Winfield leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory: his wife, Enid; brother, Claud Gant of Medina; daughters, Louise (James) McMorris of Medina, Barbara (Robert) Hill of Bessmer, Ala. and Carol Robinson of Medina; sons, Marcus Gant of Medina and Ricky Gant of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 22 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Winfield was preceded in death by his mother, father and stepmother. Also preceding him are his sisters, Lear Lee Ross, Irma Johnson and Josephine Hall; brothers, Catha Lee Gant and Wilmer Gant; and his son, Michael Gant.
Waite and Son Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
