MEDINA – Put on those boots and get ready to enjoy a cold beer up in the grandstand; that modern country sound is back in Medina.
After The Band Perry dropped from the headlining gig in 2015 and officials opted not to book an act last year, the once-longstanding tradition of popular music at the Medina County Fair looked bleak.
Nashville recording artists Gary Allan and Brothers Osborne will fill the void and begin carrying that torch once again when the twangy double feature hits the grandstand Thursday, Aug. 3. The show will begin at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $33 at Medina-Fair.com or at the fair office on West Smith Road. Tickets can also be purchased by downloading the Ticketracker app on iTunes or Google Play.
“We thought this would be a nice fit,” said Pam Oberholtzer of the Medina County Fair Board. “Our fair likes the current acts.”
Headliner Gary Allan has the allure of a modern day outlaw and the decades of experience to back it up, a touch grittier and much more rock ‘n’ roll than his younger contemporaries.
Entertainment Weekly has called him “dark and dreamy,” Playboy described him as “soulful and rough around the edges” and Rolling Stone simply referred to him as a “maverick.”
Allan, a Universal Music Group Nashville artist, continues to tour on the uber success of his 2013 album “Set You Free,” which topped the Billboard 200 Pop chart, a career-first for Allan. The record also features fifth-all-time No. 1 country radio chart-topper “Every Storm Runs Out Of Rain.”
Allan’s last four albums – he’s released eight since 1996’s “Used Heart For Sale” – debuted at the top of the Billboard Country Album chart. He has sold more than 7 million albums, been certified platinum on three back-to-back albums and certified gold five times.
Released in June, the California native’s most recent single “Do You Wish It Was Me?” has been spun heavily on pop-country radio stations throughout the U.S. Before that, his new ballad “Mess Me Up” was released digitally in May.
Opening the show is Brothers Osborne, Maryland expats born from a working-class family who moved to Nashville to pursue songwriting and have seen some success.
Like Allan, Brothers Osborne, John (guitar) and TJ (vocals, guitar), deliver more of a “twang-and-crunch” approach to modern country, cutting through the synthesized pop with more of a rock feel.
The singer-songwriter siblings recently won Vocal Duo of the Year at the 50th Country Music Association Awards. Their No. 1, certified platinum single “Stay A Little Longer,” from their debut album “Pawn Shop,” also received a Grammy nomination.
Brothers Osborne released “Pawn Shop” in January 2016 and embarked on their first headlining tour, “The Dirt Rich Tour,” later that year. The brothers have previously supported Eric Church, Little Big Town and Miranda Lambert on their recent tours.
The show is being presented in conjunction with Variety Attractions, of Zanesville, which manages tours for a slew of popular country artists.
