Northrop, Garfield nominated for statewide recognition
Medina City Schools was notified that Eliza Northrop Elementary and Garfield Elementary were recommended by the Ohio Department of Education for statewide recognition for their work to implement the Positive Behavior Support Framework (PBIS).

In order to earn statewide recognition for their work in PBIS, both buildings were required to demonstrate successful implementation of the elements of the framework to meet the state’s established criteria. Each of these buildings established a team of teachers and administrators that dedicated their time to planning and supporting implementation of the PBIS framework.

Northrop and Garfield were part of the first cohort of buildings in the district to implement this framework. During the 2017-2018 school year, all of the buildings across the Medina City School District will be supporting the inclusion of the PBIS framework. PBIS is a framework adopted by ODE to support districts looking at proactive strategies and procedures that ensure important social and learning outcomes by creating a positive and supportive school climate.

The district will receive official notice recognizing these buildings for their work early next fall; both buildings will be honored at a statewide event in late November.
