Harriet Murphy, 85, passed away May 11, 2017. She was born Feb. 20, 1932, to George and Marguerite Jackson of Stamford, Conn.

She graduated 1949 from Sacred Heart Academy in Stamford. She met James J. Murphy, the love of her life, while working in New York City. They were married for 29 years and had six children. She worked for O’Neil’s Department Store, now Macy’s, and moved up to become the bridal registrar for over 10 years. She was a faithful member of Holy Martyrs Catholic Church in Medina.

After retirement, she loved to travel and visited Ireland and Italy, volunteered for the Medina County District Library, and was an active volunteer to the Parish Council and the Cleaning Bees. She was a real “people person” who easily connected with others wherever she was. She was an avid reader, a good listener, a faithful friend and a loving mother.

She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her children, James (Diane) of Yachats, Ore., Catherine (Mark) Hausman of Medina, Barbara (Stephen) Poorman of Akron, Carol Richardson of Portage Lakes, Joan Murphy of Montgomery Village, Md. and Robert (Jennifer) Murphy of Elburn, Ill.; She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; her brother, Lewis Jackson and family in Stamford; and her dear family friends Nancy Broderick of Stamford, Alice and Frank Taylor and family of Wadsworth and Janet and Bruce Caudill and family of Akron.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Murphy; and granddaughter, Stephanie Kowalski VanDamme.
