Will feisty kiwis embrace Brown?

Former US senator Scott Brown is apparently in the running for ambassador to New Zealand. But would the island nation be a good fit?

Here are five things to ponder about New Zealand, should Brown get the job:

■ Active lifestyle: New Zealand has become one of the world’s great mountain-biking destinations. Brown, a longtime fitness enthusiast, is an avid cyclist and competitive triathlete.

■ Geography: New Zealand, lying in the South Pacific, consists of two main islands, the North Island and the South Island. After living in New England for so long, Brown would be exposed to more geographic splendor (sorry Rye, N.H.!) in New Zealand. It boasts glaciers, fjords, mountains, plains, rolling hillsides, subtropical forests, and a volcanic plateau.

■ National symbol: New Zealand’s national symbol, a flightless bird called a kiwi, is known to be rugged, feisty, and industrious. During his victorious 2010 Senate campaign, Brown cut an outdoorsy, just-put-me-to-work figure in a barn jacket and pickup truck.

■ Not the Patriots, but . . . Brown might root for the All Blacks, New Zealand’s popular national rugby team. Like the Pats, the team is a titan of the sport and has carved out something of a dynasty, winning the last two Rugby World Cups. But do they have duck boats for the celebrations?

■ Lights! Camera! Blessed with such dramatic scenery, New Zealand is a popular location for films, including “The Lord of the Rings’’ and “Hobbit’’ movies, and tourists flock to the countryside to see where Gandalf and Frodo trod.

Brown has not appeared on the silver screen, as far as Metro Minute can surmise, but it wouldn’t be much of a stretch: After all, he worked as a part-time model while a student at Boston College Law School.
