■ DRAGGING DEATH A Dorchester woman has died after she was caught in the door of an SUV and dragged hundreds of feet on Sunday after an altercation on Massachusetts Avenue, police say. Cusandra Webb, 29, of Dorchester, was dragged from a car and hit by a taxi shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday, police said. Webb had been in the car with 26-year-old Brianna Smith of Dorchester when she became trapped in the door of the SUV and Smith drove off, dragging Webb, police said. Smith has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, police said.
■ HIGH-SPEED CHASE A driver led police Monday on a chase at speeds up to 100 miles per hour from Cape Cod to Middleborough before he was taken into custody, State Police said. Police identified the driver as 24-year-old Cary Guy of Dighton. He was charged with speeding, failure to stop for a police officer, operating to endanger, and operating after license revocation. The pursuit began around 9:30 a.m. in Barnstable and continued through Sandwich, ending on Interstate 495 in Middleborough, said Massachusetts State Police Lieutenant Tom Ryan.
■ SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE Maynard police investigated a suspicious package found on the front porch of a home on Demars Street on Monday. Officers examined the package and decided to call in the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad, police said. The squad rendered the package safe, said authorities, who did not provide any details about it.
■ PEDESTRIAN DIES A pedestrian who was struck by an SUV while crossing the street in Brunswick, Maine, has died. Brunswick police told the Portland Press Herald that 20-year-old Caleb Maxham died Monday morning at Maine
Medical Center. Maxham was struck just after
8 p.m. Sunday in a dimly lit area. Police say he was wearing dark clothing and tried to cross
a section of the street where there is no crosswalk. (AP)
