Pittsfield native Elizabeth Banks is making rounds promoting whohaha .com, a new website that showcases funny women. “Since the dawn of time, men have shouldered the burden of comedy,’’ Banks says with sarcasm in a video on the website, which she co-created. “After years of taking 90 percent of lead comedy roles and being forced to appear nightly on standup stages around the globe, we are here to relieve you of your obligation.’’ Banks (inset), who has appeared in comedies such as “The 40 Year Old Virgin,’’ “Pitch Perfect,’’ “Zack and Miri Make a Porno,’’ and “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp,’’ was on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show’’ on Monday to explain that she wanted to start the site because she wanted to find a platform for women in comedy and to give young women a place to find good, hilarious role models. Content on the site includes red carpet coverage of Melissa McCarthy’s new movie “The Boss,’’ and videos that featuring personalities such as Akilah Hughes and Lisa “Lisbug’’ Schwartz. Banks is also on the hunt for more funny women. She’s taking names and tips for content on the recommend page of the site.
