Luwane Pipkins tied a school record with eight 3-pointers and scored a career-high 27 points and Dejon Jarreau added 17 points and five assists as UMass pulled away for a 95-77 win over Kennesaw State on Saturday in Amherst.
Rashaan Holloway had 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting, Donte Clark scored 11 with six assists, and Tyrn Flowers added 10 points for the Minutemen (8-3).
Kendrick Ray’s 3-point play pulled Kennesaw State (3-8) within 6 with 9:23 to play, but Holloway had a dunk and Pipkins converted a 3-point play — both on assists by Clark — to make it 74-63 a half-minute later. A 3 by Pipkins with 6:46 left made it a 12-point game and UMass (8-3) led by double figures the rest of the way.
Kendrick Ray hit four 3-pointers and scored a career-high 35 points for the Owls (3-8).
UMass hit 38 of 73 (52 percent) from the field, including 12 of 24 from 3-point range, and had 25 assists.
UCLA 86, Ohio St. 73 — Aaron Holiday and Bryce Alford each had 20 points as the No. 2 Bruins (12-0) beat the Buckeyes (8-3) at the CBS Sports Classic in Las Vegas.
Marc Loving scored 19 points for Ohio State, which lost for the third time in five games.
Kansas 89, Davidson 71 — Josh Jackson and Frank Mason III scored 18 points apiece, helping the No. 3 Jayhawks (10-1) beat the visiting Wildcats (5-4).
Peyton Aldridge had 22 points for Davidson, while Jack Gibbs — the nation’s fourth-leading scorer coming into the game — had 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Kentucky 103, North Carolina 100 — Malik Monk scored a Kentucky freshman record 47 points and hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 16.7 seconds left to lead the sixth-ranked Wildcats (10-1) past the No. 7 Tar Heels (10-2) at the CBS Sports Classic in Las Vegas.
North Carolina's Justin Jackson had 34 points. His basket with 45 seconds left put UNC ahead.
Monk hit 18 of 28 shots, including 8-of-12 3-point attempts, in an electric performance that was the most points in Division 1 this season. Only Duke’s Dick Groat (48 points) in 1952 has scored more against the Tar Heels.
Baylor 82, Jackson State 57 — Al Freeman scored 19 points as the No. 4 Bears (10-0) defeated the Tigers (3-8) in Fort Hood, Texas.
It was the second straight year that the Bears played on the nation’s largest Army post, about an hour’s drive south of their Waco campus. Baylor is 10-0 for the first time since starting 17-0 in 2011-12.
Edric Dennis scored 21 points for Jackson State.
Louisville 87, E. Kentucky 56 — Donovan Mitchell had 15 points as the No. 11 Cardinals (10-1) used a 20-0 run to close the first half to top the visiting Colonels (6-6).
Louisville won its 14th championship in 15 years in the Billy Minardi Classic, named for the brother-in-law of Cardinals coach Rick Pitino.
Mangok Mathiang matched a career best with 13 rebounds for Louisville. Jaylen Johnson and Tony Hicks each had 10 points.
Butler 83, Indiana 78 — Kelan Martin scored 28 points as 18th-ranked Bulldogs (10-1) held off a late rally by the No. 9 Hoosiers (8-2) at the Crossroads Classic in Indianapolis.
James Blackmon Jr. paced Indiana with 26 points.
Butler (10-1) has upset the Hoosiers twice in the last three meetings.
West Virginia 112, UMKC 67 — The No. 12 Mountaineers (9-1) routed the visiting Kangaroos (7-6) for coach Bob Huggins’s 800th career win.
Huggins is the 10th coach to reach 800 wins and the third to reach that mark at his alma mater, joining Jim Boeheim (Syracuse) and Adolph Rupp (Kentucky).
Nathan Adrian led seven players in double figures for West Virginia with 13 points.
Virginia 79, Robert Morris 39 — Devon Hall and Kyle Guy scored 13 points apiece as the No. 13 Cavaliers (9-1) routed the Colonels (3-9) in Charlottesville, Va.
Isaiah Still led Robert Morris with 16 points.
Purdue 86, Notre Dame 81 — Caleb Swanigan had 26 points and 10 rebounds as the No. 15 Boilermakers (9-2) beat the No. 21 Fighting Irish (9-2) in the Crossroads Classic in Indianapolis.
Vincent Edwards added 20 points and 10 rebounds for Purdue.
Bonzie Colson had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Matt Farrell finished with 22 points, 10 assists, and 5 rebounds for Notre Dame, which has lost two straight.
South Carolina 77, South Florida 66 — PJ Dozier scored 11 of his 23 points in the closing minutes and the No. 16 Gamecocks (9-1) defeated the Bulls (5-4) in Tampa.
South Carolina rebounded from its only loss of the season while improving to 2-1 without leading scorer and rebounder Sindarius Thornwell, who has been suspended indefinitely for violating athletic department policy.
Jahmal McMurray led South Florida with 25 points.
Arizona 67, Texas A&M 63 — Dusan Ristic tied a season-high with 18 points, and the No. 19 Wildcats (10-2) had to hold off a furious rally to defeat the Aggies (7-3) in Houston.
Lauri Markkanen added 17 points and seven rebounds, and Kobi Simmons chipped in 14 points for the Wildcats.
Tyler Davis had 23 points and 10 rebounds for Texas A&M.
Florida St. 83, Manhattan 67 — Dwayne Bacon scored 16 points and the No. 23 Seminoles (11-1) defeated the Jaspers (3-8) in the in the opening game at the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise, Fla.
Florida State is off to its best start in school history.
Zavier Turner led Manhattan with 18 points and five assists.
Cincinnati 119, Fairleigh Dickinson 68 — Senior Kevin Johnson scored a career-high 18 points as the No. 25 Bearcats (9-2) rolled to the highest-scoring game of coach Mick Cronin’s 11-year career in routing the Knights (2-9).
Jacob Evans added 17 points and five other Bearcats reached double figures as Cincinnati (9-2) bettered it previous season-high margin of victory for the second straight game, a 38-point romp over Texas Southern on Tuesday.
Stephan Jiggetts scored 24 points to lead Fairleigh Dickinson.
Providence 76, Wagner 54 — Jalen Lindsey scored 16 points as the host Friars (9-2) defeated the Seahawks (3-6).
Emmitt Holt added 11 points and Kyron Cartwright had 11 assists for Providence, which has won five straight.
Elijah Davis had 13 points and nine rebounds for Wagner.
Vermont 82, Eastern Michigan 74 — Freshman Anthony Lamb scored a career-high 26 points with eight rebounds as the Catamounts (8-4) defeated the Eagles (6-4) in Bulrington, Vt.
Ernie Duncan and Urquhart both had 14 points for Vermont. Willie Mangum IV scored 18 points and James Thompson IV had 13 and a career-high 21 rebounds for Eastern Michigan.

Las Vegas Bowl — Donnel Pumphrey set the NCAA career rushing record in his college finale, running for 115 yards and a TD as San Diego State (11-3) defeated Houston (9-4), 34-10.
Pumphrey passed former Wisconsin star Ron Dayne’s mark of 6,397 yards on a 15-yard run early in the fourth quarter. He wrapped up his sensational career in his hometown with 6,405 yards.
‘‘It means the world to me,’’ Pumphrey said as his father wiped away tears before hugging him.
Pumphrey’s senior total of 2,133 yards rushing ranks in the top 10 for a FBS player.
Ron Smith returned an interception 54 yards for a touchdown, Curtis Anderson caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Christian Chapman, Juwan Washington ran for a touchdown, and John Baron kicked two field goals for the Aztecs. They overcame a 10-0 first-quarter deficit against the Cougars for their second consecutive bowl win.
New Mexico Bowl — Richard McQuarley ran for two TDs as New Mexico (9-4) beat Texas-San Antonio (6-7), 23-20, in Albuquerque.
The Lobos’ only win since taking the 1961 Aviation Bowl had been a 2007 victory over Nevada in the New Mexico Bowl.
Lamar Jordan rushed for 81 yards and threw a 34-yard pass to Dameon Gamblin that set up McQuarley’s 1-yard burst for a 23-13 lead in the fourth quarter. The Lobos gave coach Bob Davie his first bowl win — he lost three times at Notre Dame and also last year with New Mexico in this bowl.
Jarveon Williams ran for 125 yards for the Roadrunners (6-7), who lost in their first bowl appearance in the program’s six-year history.
Celebration Bowl — Grambling State (11-1) won the Celebration Bowl in Atlanta when it blocked an extra-point kick set back 15 yards by an excessive celebration with just over two minutes left, holding off North Carolina Central (9-3), 10-9.
Joseph McWilliams surged in and swatted Brandon McLaren’s 35-yard try with 2:14 remaining to preserve the Tigers’ edge.
Down, 10-3, North Carolina Central had a chance to pull even after Quentin Atkinson shook loose and caught a 39-yard touchdown pass from scrambling Malcolm Bell. But Atkinson took off his helmet while reveling with the crowd, drawing a personal foul penalty.
Martez Carter’s 32-yard touchdown run to open the second half gave Grambling State its first lead. The Tigers earned the bowl bid by winning the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship to complete a dramatic resurgence by the program.

Arizona State 4, UMass 1 — Steven Iacobellis opened the scoring for the Minutemen (4-12-2) before the Sun Devils scored four unaswered goals for their second win on consecutive nights in Amherst.
