For a period, it looked as if Jonna Kennedy would hold off Winchester.
The Watertown junior goalie was peppered with 17 shots in the period, 36 on the evening, but Winchester (2-0) rode a three-goal second period to a 4-0 victory Saturday in Woburn.
“We didn’t have any net drive, especially against good goalies,’’ said Winchester coach Craig Seabury after an unsteady start for his Sachems. “We need more presence in front, to be stronger, and get dirty goals in.’’
With a goal down low on the power play, senior captain Maeve Hickey got her team rolling 48 seconds into the middle frame. Junior Tara Doherty added a goal a minute later, poking her follow past Kennedy to make it 2-0. Senior defender Siobhan Hickey’s goal from the point capped the scoring in the period.
“We fed the points and we drove the net,’’ said Seabury. “Obviously it was one-sided, but you have to learn how to win games in those situations.’’
Senior Aurora Fidler had a bid to score late in the third for Watertown (0-2), but just missed on her opportunity. Kennedy finished with 32 saves.
Senior Marisa Doherty scored in the third for Winchester to accompany an earlier assist, while sophomore Baile Lazarus picked up her first career shutout.
“Proud of the girls,’’ said Seabury. “As long as they come and work hard, give an honest effort, win battles. Win or lose, I’m still proud of them. We just have to get better every day.’’
Boston Latin 3, Cambridge 0 — Eighth-grader Ellen Linso recorded her first shutout.
Southfield 0, Rivers 0 — Junior goalie Kelly Lavelle preserved the shutout with 33 saves.
Winthrop 2, Peabody 0 — Kelsie Griffiths had a goal and an assist for the Lady Bulldogs (2-0).
Braintree 4, Norwood 1 — Delia Lee, Katie Yaxter, Deirdre Burchill, and Meg Stimpson connected for goals in the Wamps’ opener.
Milton 4, Newton North 1 — Elena Kapolis and Julia Scannell both recorded a goal and two assists for the visiting Wildcats.
Westwood 8, Dover-Sherborn 0 — Sophomore classmates Kat Keith and Kira Hobson combined for four goals and five assists for the visiting Wolverines.
Acton-Boxborough 2, Billerica 1 — Junior Nicole Sedler and eighth-grader Lily Zavolas each grabbed a goal and an assist in front of seventh-grader Madigan Anderson (21 saves).
Lexington 3, Wilmington 3 — Senior Emily DeVine netted a pair of goals for the host Minutemen.
Lincoln-Sudbury 4, Concord-Carlisle 0 — Sophomore defenseman Siobhan Frye scored twice for the Warriors, while senior Alyssa Lee provided the 22-save shutout.
Shrewsbury 5, Longmeadow 3 — Delaney Couture had a hat trick and an assist to help the visiting Colonials overcome a 3-1 deficit. Kylian Kelly had a goal and assist and Riley MacCausland stopped 16 shots for Shrewsbury (3-0, 1-1). Kayla Brown made 24 saves for Longmeadow (1-1, 1-1).
Matignon 4, Leominster 1 — Sophomore Ciara Wall scored twice and dished off an assist for the visiting Warriors.

BC High 2, Don Bosco (N.J.) 0 — Sophomore Luke Garrity registered a 15-save shutout and senior forward Sean McDonough struck for the game’s first goal midway through the second period to lift the Eagles past the New Jersey power at Merrimack College.
Nantucket 5, Southeastern 5 — Southeastern’s Peter Costa scored the tying goal with 59 seconds remaining, his second of the game.
Arlington Catholic 3, St. Mary’s 2 — Senior forward Jack Bertolami scored two goals, his second serving as the Cougars’ winning goal at 6:20 in the third period.
Bridgewater-Raynham 3, Medway 1 — Junior Danny Pyne netted a goal and an assist for the visiting Trojans and Connor Harkins earned his first varsity win.
Walpole 10, Brookline 0 — Senior Paul Heffernan accounted for a pair of goals for the host Rebels.
Revere 6, Everett 5 — With 16 seconds left in regulation, Mike Giordano jammed home the winner for the Patriots (2-0).
Nauset 2, Stoughton 0 — AJ Scott (27 saves) played well in defeat for the Black Knights.
Wellesley 4, Weymouth 1 — Michael Siemering netted a pair of goals for the visiting Raiders.
North Andover 3, Tewksbury 1 — Ben Carlson registered 26 saves for the visiting Scarlet Knights.
Marshfield 4, Barnstable 0 — Sophomore forward Aidan Connolly scored twice and senior forward Andrew Fiphian added three assists for the Rams (2-0).
Austin Prep 7, Matignon 1 — The Cougars received goals from seven players in their season opener.
Braintree 4, Norwood 0 — Junior Dara Canavain netted a pair of goals while senior Laimb Saige dished out three assists for the host Wamps.
Catholic Memorial 8, Falmouth 2 — Harry Morrill and Brandon Robinson, both senior centers, scored two goals in the Knights’ season opener. Sophomore winger Chris Rooney also tallied a pair of goals and junior goalie Brendan Clancy made 18 saves.
Masconomet 2, Pentucket 1 — Freshman Tucker Hanson made 19 saves while sophomore Andrew Gotts put one in the back of the net in the second period to lift the host Chieftains.
Oliver Ames 4, Mansfield 3 — Cullen Gallagher scored once shorthanded and once on the power play to lift the visiting Tigers.
Dartmouth 9, Bourne 0 — In the championship of the Canalmen Classic, Dartmouth senior Scott Shorrock continued to display his talents and was awarded the tournament MVP.
Leominster 5, Nashoba 3 — Theo Reynolds scored the go-ahead goal at the 9:49 mark of the third period, then Nick LeBlanc scored an empty-netter to send the host Blue Devils (2-2) past the visiting Chieftains (0-2).
Littleton 5, Northbridge 4 — Joseph Mitchell had two goals and an assist, while Danny Angell had a goal and assist and Simon Rosenbaum had two assists to lift the host Tigers (1-0) past the Rams (0-2).
Xaverian 2, St. John’s (Shrewsbury) 2 — Justin Storer scored on a pass from Tyler Reynolds at 11:19 of the third period to help the visiting Pioneers (0-1-1) draw the Hawks (0-1-1).
Saint Joseph Prep 6, St. Bernard’s 1 — Senior Jerry O'Brien and sophomore Andrew Stefura each had a pair of goals for the host Hawks.
Shrewsbury 2, Westfield 1 — Matt Ward broke a 1-1 tie in the third period in the semifinals of the Bulldog Cross State Challenge at Tabor Academy in Marion.
Marlborough 5, Westborough 1 — Jake Hardy had a goal and two assists as the Panthers (1-1) scored four times in the second period to top the Rangers (0-2) in a Boro’s Cup consolation game at NorthStar.
Auburn 5, Hudson 2 — The Rockets scored three times in the third period to break a 2-2 tie and win the consolation game of the Willard Christmas Tournament at Horgan Rink.
North Middlesex 2, Longmeadow 2 — The Patriots tied the Lancers, 2-2, then outscored them, 2-1, in a shootout on goals by Matthew McCarthy and Ryan Archibald to win the Willard Christmas Tournament at Horgan Rink in Auburn.
